Fifty Bicycles that changed the world

by Alex Newson

Alex Newson would have us believe his title, that a bicycle can change the world – and being both the curator of the Design Museum in London and a passionate cyclist, he almost succeeds. In this yellow booklet you’ll find bicycles from the last century to the newest trends in cycles. Beautifully photographed with great graphics, of course, the wheels of the most stylish, the most elegant and the fastest cycles run across the pages with clean commentary that follow history and all the trends. Newson has worked with a number of cycling’s most celebrated names and manufacturers including Chris Boardman, Bob Haro, Graeme Obree, Team Sky, Pinarello, Colnago, Trek, Santa Cruz and Felt.  With his keen eye and practical knowledge, he is able to describe in a few words the technical peak of each bike and ends with a new bike influenced by an old custom –  a luggage rack above the front wheel of the new “Faraday Porteur”, a bike inspired by young delivery boys peddling through the streets of Paris distributing their newspapers in the early dawn.
