César (1921-1998) was recognized
as one of France’s leading sculptors with his “compression” series:
turning cars, cans, and other metal objects into
art through a lengthy process he called selective compression.
César would often visit Azzedine in the famous Alaïa kitchen
where he and Azzedine would then spend hours preparing dinners for their friends.
In the mid 80’s César executed a two dimensional compression work on paper for Alaïa
that was printed onto fabric for Alaïa’s Summer 1985 collection,
the “Impression compression”.

Bearing a joint label
– Alaïa and César –
Maison Alaïa introduces
a collection of two dresses, two shirts, a pair of pants,
and three bags that faithfully mirror the 1985 collection of Alaïa’s iconic designs
and César’s compression fabric.

Now at 10 Corso Como.
