The ambition of Moda Povera is to drive ordinary clothes into an haute couture land.
Said Olivier Saillard to present “Moda Povera II
the performance and collection by StudiOlivierSaillard at 10 Corso Como.
Each new oversized t-shirt is purchased on the internet, then draped by the touch of Olivier Saillard
under the direction of Martine Lenoir and Axelle Doué who were, respectively, couturier and fit model
in the maison of Madame Grès in Paris.
Pure Grace.

“For several weeks, several months, almost a year,
with no desire to impose upon them a season,
I draped T-shirts. With the precious help of seamstress Martine Lenoir,
following the movements of Axelle Doué and with Zoé and Gael,
faithful lovers of our research projects, we realized a singular collection.
We bought t-shirts of all sizes on the Internet. Archetypal of traditional contemporary clothing and common
to all societies and geographies, the t-shirt is ennobled by the knowledge of Martine Lenoir and Axelle Doué
who have both worked actively alongside Madame Grès as a seamstress and cabin mannequin.
In these nothing t-shirts, whose shipping costs were often higher than the cost,
the meticulous draperies drain the ordinary out of this daily garment and lead to the territories of a very high fashion.
No motives, no embroidery, no ostentatious artifice other than the one made by our hands
assembled in the republic of a forgotten memory.
Each model is produced in 7 examples only, after the principle of artists’ numbered serigraphs.”

The conversation between German artist Thomas Demand
and Francesco Bonami, writer and curator, took place yesterday at the Fondazione Sozzani.
The Complete Papers,
the book recently published by Mack, is the opera omnia by Thomas Demand,
that sheds light on the artist’ personal history and on the trajectory of his creative practice.
As somewhere between sculpturing and photography,
Demand’s pictures open new perspectives on reality and how we experience it.

Thomas Demand and Francesco Bonami
will present the volume “The Complete Papers” published by MACK
on Monday January 14th 2019, 7.00 pm
at the Fondazione Sozzani.

“The Complete Papers” is an extensive catalogue
spanning nearly three decades of work by the German artist Thomas Demand.
Demand produces large-scale photographs that appear convincingly real
or strangely artificial in their minimalism. His images are in fact records of life-size paper installations,
which he often creates based on images culled from the media.
