Andy Warhol: Seven Illustrated Books 1952-1959

In 1950’s New York, before he became one of the most famous names of the 20th century,
Andy Warhol was a skilled and successful commercial artist.
During this time, as part of his strategy to woo and cultivate clients and forge friendships,
he created seven handmade promotional books for valued contacts,
featuring his own unique drawings and quirky texts and revealing his fondness
for among other subjects cats, food, myths, shoes, beautiful boys, and gorgeous girls.
Decades later, with originals now changing hands for thousands of dollars at auction,
Taschen presents an immaculate boxed series of these seven books,
replicating Warhol’s originals as closely as possible down to the format,
dimensions, and paper stock.

Mozzarella in Carrozza, Artist Recipes by Silvia Macchetto
book presentation yesterday evening with an introduction by Alberto Saibene,
the unsystematic critic, who shared with us the double key to enter the world of art,
where the recipes become almost a confession of the personality of the artists,
of their relationship with food, as well as an intimate way of accessing their art.
Thanks to Stefano Arienti and his hen recipe,
who spoke about a world with a lost attitude towards animals,
Liliana Di Lillo, who traced a recipe colored by her grandmother memories and
De Chirico paintings, and last but not least thanks to Vedovamazzei
(alias of the two Italian artists: Stella Scala and Simeone Crispino),
who made a live reading from Winston Churchill’s diary.

Launched by New Musical Express editor and Smash Hits creator Nick Logan in 1980,
The Face was Britain’s first youth magazine to present ‘youth subject matter’ beyond music alone,
rapidly becoming an icon of ‘style culture’,
the benchmark for the very latest trends in music, fashion, photography and film.

Including an introduction by Dylan Jones,
The Story of The Face by Paul Gorman is an engaging behind-the-scenes look
at the rise and fall of one of the most influential publications of the 80s and 90s.

Now at 10 Corso Como Bookshop.

It was a rare privilege listening to Jean-Charles de Castelbajac
while introducing the re-edition of the medieval manuscript
“The Grand Armorial équestre de la Toison d’Or”
recently published with the great art historian Michel Pastoureau for the
BnF, Éditions de la Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Editions du Seuil.
Jean-Charles de Castelbajac unveiled the antique meaning of the colors in araldics
and their clear relation to Walt Disney’s comics, to the urban billboards and to fashion.
An extraordinary goldmine of sources and inspirations.

It took more than ten years the quest of Shelly Verthime
to bring the untouched pictures by Guy Bourdin to a book and to an exhibition,
shown for the first time at the Fondazione Sozzani.

Thanks to the intuitions, the coincidences,
and the love for Bourdin’s work of Shelly Verthime, the Curator of the Estate Guy Bourdin,
and Alistair O’Neill, curator and lecturer at the Saint Martins’ College,
who, with his fluent and accomplished talking led the audience throughout the years
and the career of Guy Bourdin.
