Magic is so important!  Magic is often seen as coming from caves and out of the mists, ever since the Greeks and before. Orpheus went to fetch Euridice; Demeter had to find her daughter Persephone and restore Spring – the ability to bring the power of sound and light into the darkness of the winter and create the magic of warmth and cheer finds a special place in all of our hearts and the one who can bring light into every heart is the greatest magician, or artist, or angel.

The one we all seek at this time of year.

POWER OF MAGIC

In Beijing, at the newly opened 10 Corso Como restaurant, Chef Corrado – one Michelin star, and we are very proud – has been cooking for a few of us while we set up.  What a privilege to taste this special tuna veal, wrapped in the mists of his powerful culinary magic.  Of course for me it seems truly a special brand of magic as it is well known that I do not know my way in a kitchen.

It has just been released – a short film by Erik Weranquist, a  digital Swedish artist. It is science fiction about our future in space.  The Wanderers of the Earth, for the ancient Greeks, the planets were seen in the heavens as the wandering stars.  They would travel different paths, going backward and forward in motions that the constellations did not follow in their serene circles overheard. It was a great inspiration for wandering with the mind amongst the stars.

MIRACLE ON 34th STREET

In this Christmas film, the character called Kris Kringle is hired to play Santa Claus.  Of course we are never sure whether he really is, or really isn’t Kris, or Santa, or both,  until the end when a child’s wishes are made real (a beautiful young Natalie Wood is the child in this movie now over 60 years old and still loved every year).

I LOVE1

This amazingly beautiful and fragile sculpture Kris surprisingly made for me in Beijing.  I brought it home in the plane with me, carefully navigating security and scanning rays to have it in Milano for Christmas.

Long time in the making, difficult to mount, heavy to move, here the red Christmas sculpture,  our Christmas tree in Beijing, is still being rolled into place as the holidays arrive .
